Co-Madres (Co-Mothers)
“PrimaVera”: domestic postcards.
Records of everyday life, during the wait and since Vera’s arrival, inside the home and outside, in connection with the tribe and in a constant search for interrelation with the nature that surrounds us.
Within the multiverse and the chaos that inhabit my mind, there is a survival mechanism through which I contemplate the hidden beauty around me. I record these small scenes that catch my attention.
What does motherhood confront us with?
From the most infinite tenderness to the most devastating exhaustion.
Giving ourselves completely, broken; carrying on through the final hours of the day, squeezing out the very last drop of patience left inside us.
Good and evil coexist: good is the most beautiful and pure of all goods, and evil is only exhaustion, but a terrible one. Light and shadow in an eternal struggle for power.
The child demands and the mother responds.
I want to sleep, but I cannot stop;
I want to mother and not stop creating.
An eternal apprenticeship,
another fall… and back up!
Counting the hours until each day’s alarm.
Counting the minutes until the return home.
Complicit smiles and glances,
laughter that fills my heart.

In 2024, the Co-Mothers project developed into a group exhibition bringing together the work of artists Gabriela López Giménez, Victoria Benítez, Suyay Herrera, and Jimena Bueno, who also curated the exhibition.
The exhibition narrative addresses the idea of being mothers and artists. It reflects on the clan, the group, being co-mothers and co-artists, and community.
The exhibition includes works, production processes, and in situ proposals by four mother-artists. Together they create meaning around maternal life, the relationship between artistic work, motherhood and the tribe, and the support and care of both child and mother.
