Mama migrante (Migrant Mother)
Being a migrant mother implies, beyond the uprooting from one’s homeland, the physical separation from one’s support network. Being a migrant mother means, at least during the first period, being one 24 hours a day. Being a kangaroo mother.
But what about everything else that lives within me? Woman, daughter, sister, friend, partner, Argentine, Swiss, artist, ceramist, housewife, unemployed, supported; gardener without a garden, teacher without students, octopus woman, or dying exhausted in the attempt? Should I keep learning to become more productive every day, or learn to relax and leave tasks unfinished?
About the production:
Painting-collage: the images conceived throughout this project are developed through painting, collage and digital illustration. Throughout the production, the image of two embraced bodies is repeated: the migrant mother and her baby. In some cases, it appears in a more figurative way; in others, in a more abstract manner, also giving prominence to shapes and colors.
Elements that refer to territory, nature and the use of writing coexist with these characters. “Nature always reappears in my work. Both in art and in my days, I seek that green refuge that calms me.” The use of writing is another constant: it becomes part of the image in a subtle and integrated way.
Sometimes I think contemplation saves my days: living in continuous observation of an environment I admire and trying to pass that on to Vera.
